Mizoram Can Grow Coconut

coconut-treeAizawl, Feb 26 : Coconut could grow well in the hilly state of Mizoram, Mr Sugata Ghose, regional officer of coconut development board said.

The coconut development board, a statutory body under the ministry of agriculture, set up for the integrated development of coconut cultivation and industry in the country, has shown its interest in cultivation of coconut in Mizoram.

Under the initiatives of state horticulture director Samuel Rosanglura, the CDB conducted an awareness programme on coconut here today which was attended by about 30 farmers from Mamit, Kolasib and Lunglei districts.

The farmers were informed about the various benefits they could avail from the CDB in coconut cultivation.

In collaboration with the coconut development board, the horticulture department will make efforts to expand commercial cultivation of coconut in all the potential districts of Mizoram, officials said.
