Tapi Mra Conquers Mt Kilimanjaro

Tapi Mra Itanagar, Feb 22 : Tapi Mra, the boy from Arunachal Pradesh has hoisted the national tri-colour and logo of his state on the highest point of Africa- Mt Kilimanjaro, standing at 19,341 ft above sea level.

Talking to the chairman of Taro Opey Foundation over phone, Mra today said several international mountaineers from different countries were also climbing together but due to bad weather, many of them had to retreat. He added that he and few others managed to reach the peak at 0820 hrs yesterday.

The daredevil youth from Lemeking area in upper Subansiri is the first Arunachalee to conquer Everest and became the only person from the northeast to climb the highest peaks of both Asia and Africa successfully.

The leading mountaineer of the state expressed his thankfulness for getting a morale boosting from the residents of Arunachal, particularly the individual contributors without which his expedition to Kilimanjaro might not have been carried out.

He thanked his mother for her consent and blessings for the second expedition. He also remembered his late father Yamin Mra who had inspired him during his childhood.

Terming his Kilimanjaro climb as the success of the Arunachal people, Mra did not forget to take the names of all those who came up with financial contribution for him and his team.
