Aizawl, Jul 20 : The verification committee on RMSA/SSA teachers’ appointment row found certain irregularities, Mizo Students’ Union, which was part of the probe team, revealed today.
''Of the 959 teachers appointed under RMSA and 268 under SSA for the eight districts of Mizoram, 44 were unqualified,'' MSU president L Daniala told a press conference here.
The verification team found that the seven art instructors, 19 health and physical education instructors, three MIS coordinators, one resource person (for children with special need), one data entry operator and eight accounts appointed for different districts under SSA did not meet the required qualifications.
Under the RMSA, two mathematics teachers, two English teachers and one laboratory attendants were unqualified.
Appointment of unqualified candidates was apparently a result of improper checking of applications, according to the MSU.
The MSU strongly urged the government to take immediate actions against the irregularities as it had promised.
The verification committee, chaired by additional secretary to school education department, had representatives of teachers’ associations and MSU as members.
Since, it could not prepare a report within the stipulated time, term was extended for another month and submitted its report on July one.
According to the MSU, the government had appointed noted academician Dr J V Nunchhunga to draft guidelines of appointment of teachers under RMSA and SSA projects, who submitted a 19-point guidelines to the state government today. The MSU urged the government to implement the guidelines immediately to ensure flawless appointments of teachers in the future.
The MSU demanded abolition of the system of checking answers papers with pencil as this gives way to malpractices.
