Mizoram Road Works Gather Speed

mizoram roadAizawl, May 29 : The two-lane projects on two of the six national highways in Mizoram are in progress with nearly 60 per cent of works having been completed, PWD officials said today.

The two-lane construction works on NH 154 and 54 would be completed by mid 2012.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had allocated Rs 189.66 crore for double-lane construction of the 58-kilometre national highway 154 connecting Kolasib and Bairabi in northern Mizoram, the officials said.

The ministry had also earmarked Rs 123.93 crore for two-lane construction of stretch of 35 km on NH 54 connecting Kawnpui-Buichali (Sairang), which is a bypass of Silchar-Aizawl National Highway. Split into two packages, the double-lane works on NH 54 are being carried out by ABCI Infrastructure Pvt Ltd.

Once the double-lane project on NH 54 are completed, the distance between Kolasib and state capital Aizawl, which now takes three to four hours, would be reduced to a two-hour drive by light vehicles and three hours by heavy vehicles, PWD officials said.
