Mizoram Woman Dies After 32 Years Of Dog Bite

rabies in mizoramAizawl, Apr 20 : A 55-year-old woman died of rabies in Aizawl on April 16, thirty-two years after she was bitten by a stray dog.

Family sources said, F Zamanthangi was bitten by a stray dog in 1970 when she was 14 years old. Then she was not given any rabies vaccine injection. The wounds were treated with an antiseptic and got healed for the time being.

The virus reactivated again in 1971. Since then she showed symptoms of rabies/hydrophobia.

After medical treatment she got well and did household chores for some years.

When the virus reactivated and her condition got worse from 1977, she was put in a separate room and remained there till her death.

From April 6, she developed asthma and died ten days later.
