6 Dead Due to Japanese Encephalitis in Manipur

Japanese Encephalitis Imphal, Jul 9 : Six people have reportedly died following outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis in Manipur and over 70 people have been admitted to different hospitals.

State health officials said there was no stock of anti-viral drugs (injections) in Manipur and a doctor today left for the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, New Delhi, taking the blood samples of the patients to confirm the disease.

Efforts were underway to procure the vaccines and only limited vials can be brought by air, it was stated.

Most reports of the disease are coming from Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishenpur districts, health officials said.
