Bining Ling Kuaye From Mizoram Wins Airtel Kolkata Marathon

Airtel Kolkata Marathon Kolkata, Feb 22 : Bining Ling Kuaye of the Army has won the Airtel Kolkata Marathon walking two hours in 20.49 minutes covering 42.195 kms today.

The athlete from Mizoram defended his title well ahead of his rival Angad Kumar also from Army Sports Institute of Pune (20.23.30) and Bhairam Singh Lone of Madhya Pradesh (2.25.30) secured second and third in the men's marathon, being organized by Athletic Coaches Association of Bengal in collaboration with CII.

In the marathon for women of 10.5 kms of distance Kabita Rao of Karnataka clocked 33.37 minutes and her state partner Priti L Rao finished with 35.29 minutes.

The third place went to Pampa Chanda of Indian Railways.

In the men's marathon, the winner Kuaye became richer by Ra 3.3 lakh and in the women's category Kabita Raut received Rs 1.1 lakh.

The winners, however, could not make time under two hours 18 minutes, a criterion to represent India in the Commonwealth games to be held in New Delhi later this year.

Altogether, 207 athletes from different parts of India in the men's marathon and 49 participated in the women's marathon category.

Besides, nearly 17,000 people participated in the 4.2 km fun marathon which was flagged off by Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty.

Bollywood actor Vidya Balan gave away the prices to the winners.
